The Puma IFV is the modern successor to the Marder and serves as the armored combat vehicle for German mechanized infantry (*Panzergrenadiere*). Production vehicles based on the 2018 design standard feature an unmanned turret equipped with a stabilized 30mm MK 30-2/ABM autocannon, capable of precise engagement even while on the move. This is complemented by a 5.56mm MG4 machine gun.
The Puma has a crew of three—commander, gunner, and driver—and can carry an additional six mechanized infantry soldiers. Its modular protection concept combines physical armor with the MUSS self-protection system, allowing for various levels of protection. In its heavy configuration, the vehicle weighs up to approximately 43 tons.
The Puma is powered by an 800 kW (1,088 hp) diesel engine. It reaches speeds of around 70 km/h and has a road range of approximately 460 to 550 km, depending on the specific configuration and source. With its excellent off-road mobility, modern thermal imaging and observation systems, and digital networking capabilities, the Puma is designed for combat operations alongside mechanized infantry and the Leopard 2 main battle tank.
