KINETIC: 1/48 Grumman EA-6B Prowler
DescrizioneEvolved from the basic A-6 intruder, the Grumman EA-6B Prowler is an electronic warfare aircraft that operates from land basesand aircraft carriers to provide electronic attack for the Navy, Marines, and Air Force. The first flight of the twin-engine, mid-wing EA-6B occurred in 1968 and the aircraft entered service in 1971. Since then, the Prowler has proven its significance in joint warfare in operations against Libyan targets in 1986, Operation DESERT STORM, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. Primary mission of the EA-6B is to protect strike aircraft and ground troops from enemy attack, which is achieved by the use of electromagnetic energy to disrupt hostile radar signals. In addition, the EA-6B can also be armed with the AGM-88 High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM) to destroy enemy Early Warning (EW) radars and radar guided Surface to Air Missiles (SAM), thus suppressing the enemy’s air defenses and increasing mission success rate. Being an integral part of the fleet's first line of defense, the EA-6B receives more frequent equipment upgrades than any other aircraft in the Navy. The most significant upgrades being the Improved Capability electronic suite modification (ICAP III), which provides the aircraft with greater jamming capability and more precise threat location. These continuous upgrades will ensure the EA-6B Prowler remains the world’s most effective tactical electronic warfare platform. |
